Do you know how the Himalayas were actually formed?
Ever Wondered why the height of Mount Everest is increasing every decade? Don't worry after reading this blog your concepts would be crystal clear.

See this above Gif? The Himalayas were formed when the Indian Plate collided with the Eurasian Plate, which led to the upliftment of the rocks, and hence mountains were formed. You can very well visualize how both plates come towards each other and collide leading to the upliftment of rocks in between. To understand why plates collided we need to understand plate tectonics theory.
Plate Tectonics:
The theory was given by Mckenzie & Parker.
A tectonic plate is a massive irregular-shaped slab of solid rock composed of both ocean & continent lithosphere.
Since these plates float over magma (we have studied this in Continental Drift theory) they move with magma and continents being part of magma also move. The plates collided when they move towards each other. So basically Indian Plate which is moving northwards collided with the Eurasian plate. The Sea between the Indian Plate and Eurasian Plate was called the Tethys sea.
Indian Plate is moving northwards even today. Plates have been moving throughout. The PANGAEA as visualized by Continental Drift theory was just one stage where all continents converged to form a large mass.
We will study the movement of the Indian Plate in our next blog, and my friends if we are adding any value to your preparation or your life would you mind doing few things for us?
